"Art Is Resistance" Protest
“you kids wanna hear a song that was cool 20 years ago?” - Notes Of Decent musician prior to playing “American Idiot” (2004) by Green Day .
More than 35 people, young and old, showed up for the "The Youth Coalition" lead protest at the DHS/ICE offices at 12445 E. Caley Ave Centennial, Colorado.
Sam and Bre organized the event, in which "Notes of Descent" musical band played protest songs, while a score of young artist drew with chalk upon the sidewalks.
They drew messages, figures and pictures, all designed to communicate a the message "THIS IS NOT OK" to ICE and DHS agents.
”Fuck ICE” was a common theme.
They made sure that the DHS employees would see the drawings and messages from children outspoken against injustice.
Lead by a single soul with a megaphone, they chanted and sang outside the ICE offices, voicing dissent against DHS and solidarity with the immigrant population.
The organizers expressed that this was the first event held by The Youth Coalition, and they are working towards more things to come.
Multiple adult safety marshals donned in high-vis yellow vests and first aid kits were also there keeping a keen eye.
The Youth Coalition is a youth organized education, advocacy, and action group based in Colorado.
