About Travis:

Photo by my 9 Year Old nephew on his moms cell phone. Thanks C, I love you.

Hi, Hello.
My name is Travis Vowell.

I’m a photographer from Denver, Colorado with a bit over 20 years of experience behind a camera.

I learned photography shooting on 35mm Black-and-White film and printing in a darkroom.
Back then; nothing was instant, everything was expensive, and every image had to be tediously earned.
I learned to slow down, pay attention, be observant, practice creativity, and to truly understand what makes a photo GREAT.

That foundational early learning, as well as my later education in fine art black-and-white photography , visual story-telling, and historical documentary photography; now shapes how I approach photography today.

My photography is about focusing on the moment, looking at the details, and then knowing when and why a moment is worth capturing and how to best represent history.
It’s about understanding history and humanity as it unfolds and how to record it in a way that future generations will understand.

Capturing the moments that explain, define, and tell the story of us human beings here and now, and preserving them for history, is truly my greatest calling as a photographer.

My education and experience has shaped the way I work now:
deliberate, patient, observant, intentional.
I look for life as it happens.
The little moments of truth, authenticity, and expression and life, people and emotions.
I capture what makes this moment important.

I focus on creating images that hold up over time.
From beginning to end: my focus is to preserve memories, to capture time, to document the history of your life.

I approach photography as an effort to understand people and history.
To document people and events with clarity and intention for future generations to understand and to learn from.

My work is rooted in documentary and photojournalistic style.
I photograph people as who they are, true to themselves.
Focused on real, unscripted moments and emotions.
Natural interactions and environments.
Shooting with an eye for timeless and classical styling.

Visually, my work leans cinematic and editorial.
I focus on providing a series of strong, intentional photographs; rather than a bunch of “ok” photos.
I put meticulous effort into each photo.

Whether I’m photographing portraits, events, families, musicians, or everyday life: I aim to keep the process relaxed and collaborative so people can be themselves, and I can take their most authentic photographs.

Thank you - Travis
