Photos of the HALO 3 promotional mural, which has been displayed at the Denver, Colorado GameStop since 2007.
Back in 2007 scores of gamers lined-up at the GameStop at 960 S. Colorado Blvd in Denver, at midnight September 25, 2007 to be one of the first to received the now-acclaimed and legendary video game HALO 3.
This mural of The Master Chief has been on the south-facing window of this GameStop before and since.
For 18 years and running, it has stood as a monument to HALO 3, and the die-hard gamers who loved, and still love the game and the franchise.
Some of us may not remember HALO 3. But to others HALO 3 has played an important part of their past.
Looking back; it may have been a quintessential and formative experience. Where and when and who and how we felt: before the worries and responsibilities of adulthood.
And now, ressurected by the internets observation of this old mural: Perhaps Providing memories and maybe even nostalgia of a simpler time: when LAN Parties, Code Red Mountain Dew, and laughing with your friends was the upmost on your mind. A time when your buddy next to you and maybe the apple juice on the floor is all that really mattered.
Now: this 18 year old mural is showing signs of wear-and-tear. It is worn. Ultraviolet light, the wind, and time has gotten to it. Tearing it down, slowly destroying it.
It is withering, it is fading. Pieces of it have been blown away by the wind, falling into the dust and debris of modern life.
But: It's still there, Still visible. That is clearly the Master Chief, he's unmistakable.
It may be old. It may be fading. But it's still there, still real. Just like your memories. Just like your feelings.
And it is now still as real as the moments that you experienced sitting in that basement with your friends 18 years ago, laughing, and living.
